Van Drivers ‘Harassed’

Chinatown Van Drivers Claim Harassment by NYPD Police

October 11, 2015 – Chinatown commute van drivers claim they are harassed by law enforcement agencies. The commuters vans pick up passengers at several places in Chinatown, including the corner of Elizabeth and Hester streets.

The vans are frequently ticketed by the NYPD for things like illegal pick-up — even though they have a “convenience permit” from the Department of Transportation to pick up there. The drivers are licensed by the New York City Taxi and Limousine Commission.

The NYPD’s public information office did not provide a response to an inquiry about the issue.
